This is a low-cost opportunity to learn English from experienced, professional teachers with Master's degrees.

Classes will be offered twice a week, 3 hours per week, for 9 weeks per level.  Descriptions of what will be taught in each level are provided below.

Course Description

Beginner LevelStudents will acquire practical English skills for effective communication for daily life. Classes will focus on basic listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Students will learn and practice the meaning and use of practical vocabulary for everyday situations, the grammar structures needed to express such communicative functions, and the basic sounds required to make their pronunciation clearer. In terms of listening skills, students will increase their ability to understand spoken English in everyday situations so that they can both interact effectively and obtain necessary information. The focus will be on real-life situations, e.g., filling out basic forms, finding housing, enrolling a child in school, communicating basic needs and problems to a doctor, understanding basic printed information, shopping or placing an order, or communicating basic information on the phone. Intermediate LevelStudents will increase their ability to communicate effectively and with greater grammatical and situational accuracy. They will acquire the vocabulary required to communicate effectively and understand written material. They will also start to monitor their own speech for grammatical and phonetic accuracy. The focus will be on increasing the effectiveness of communication in speaking and writing and the ability to understand spoken and written English in real-life situations, e.g., speaking with a counselor, communicating with social services, understanding information on websites, reporting a problem to the police or the building manager, or opening a bank account.Advanced LevelStudents will build confidence in speaking by participating in group discussions and by monitoring their grammatical accuracy and pronunciation. Students will increase their knowledge and use of relevant vocabulary, expressions, and idioms in appropriate contexts and cultural situations and refine their understanding of spoken English and ability to respond effectively in conversation, in person or on the phone, at the workplace or in any other situation. Reading and writing instruction will be tailored to students’ needs and goals (e.g., writing a cover letter or a resume, or reading special-interest reports or information).
