Spring International Language Center at the University of Arkansas, in partnership with World Learning and the U.S. Department of State’s EducationUSA network, is pleased to offer 3-week EducationUSA Academy programs.

A more detailed description of what our EducationUSA Academy programs offer academically and culturally can be found below.

We are confident that you will leave our program with a better understanding of the culture of US higher education institutions, the possibilities for enrollment, the skills to be successful, and an idea of the potential you have within the US academic system.

The three-week EducationUSA Academy will offer 25 hours per week of intensive English language instruction for intermediate and advanced students of English. The English language component will include instruction in academic reading, writing, and oral language skills to prepare you for college courses. Courses will be interactive and integrate critical thinking, working in teams, and leadership training. You will learn the core values taught in the context of American educational systems and US academic culture.

Guest speakers will help students learn about different types of higher education institutions, the university admission process, cultural adjustment, and the skills necessary to thrive in the US academic environment.

There will also be visits to several types of college and university institutions in the state  including a major research university, a minority serving institution, a private liberal arts college, a community college, a technical college, and a medical training college. Some of these institutions may include:

  • University of Arkansas, Fayetteville
  • Hendrix College, Conway
  • Arkansas Tech University, Russellville
  • Northwest Arkansas Community College, Bentonville
  • University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock

Your EducationUSA Academy with us will also teach you more about US culture, give you a chance to become more familiar with the community, and provide an opportunity to experience service learning.

Cultural activities and visits may include:

Arkansas Naturals Baseball Game

Crystal Bridges Museum

Outside of the classroom, you will also have an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of Arkansas and relax with fun local activities.

Recreational activities may include:

  • Hiking in nearby state parks
Fayetteville is a short distance from multiple state parks (inc. Devil's Den, Hobbs, and Lake Fort Smith), Beaver Lake, and the Ozark National Forest. We'll provide you a great opportunity to see one of the most naturally beautiful locations in the United States.
  • Canoeing on local rivers
Arkansas has over 600,000 acres of lakes and more than 90,000 miles of rivers, streams and creeks. These include the Buffalo National River (the first river in the United States to be given the designation), the Bull Shoals-White River, and Mulberry River.
  • Camping
  • Visiting a wildlife refuge
  • Concerts and picnics in the park
Every summer Fayetteville hosts an evening summer concert series featuring both local and out-of-state musicians, inviting the city out for an evening of music and fun.
  • Ice skating or Rollerskating
  • Movies and bowling with UA student conversation partners
