In April 2004, Fayetteville was again awarded the honor of being one of "America's Most Livable Cities". It is a rapidly growing university city of about 62,000 people, with a metropolitan area population of nearly 360,000. However, both the crime rate and the cost of living are still quite low.

Fayetteville is located in the lovely Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas, at about 430 meters above sea level. The climate is mild continental with four distinct seasons and around 115 cm of precipitation a year. There are national parks, state forests, and numerous lakes and rivers nearby for hiking, camping, fishing, and canoeing.

The City of Fayetteville has a historic downtown square with buildings dating from the Civil War. Within walking distance of the square is Dickson Street, a typical college town street lined with bookstores, art galleries, gift shops, bars, coffeehouses and outdoor cafes. For culture, you can attend Broadway shows, concerts, dance performances, and art exhibits at the new Walton Arts Center, also on Dickson Street. The University of Arkansas also offers a large number of cultural and sports events throughout the year. Fayetteville's new city library, an stylish architectural wonder, is as big and modern as libraries in major U.S. cities.

Fayetteville also offers typical American suburban shopping in a large mall with numerous stores and restaurants of every kind and in shopping centers with all the major American superstores.

It is a 1.5-hour drive from Tulsa, Oklahoma; 3 hours from Little Rock, Arkansas; 5 hours from Kansas City, Missouri; and 6 hours from Dallas, Texas.
