About the AKLatn Listserv

A listserver can be thought of as simply another e-mail address. The listserver is actually a piece of software, however, whose function is the distribution of e-mail to all persons subscribed to the list. This is a very convenient way of communicating with brothers across the nation. It can be used for everything from just saying "hi" to getting ideas for good philanthropies. The real beauty of the listesrver is that it is incredibly easy to set up and use. The listserver for the AKLatn program has been created and is currently in use. The name and address of our listserver is, appropriately:

AKLatn-L@uafsysb.uark.edu

This list is housed and maintained on one of the University of Arkansas administrative mainframes. Please note that this list operates on a CMS based mainframe, and the operating system IS NOT case sensitive (like UNIX). The capital leters are written for, well, aethetic reasons.

It is very simple to use a listserver. The first step is to subscribe yourself for the list. You do this by sending mail to the listserver software:

listserv@uafsysb.uark.edu

and in the message text, you type:

subscribe aklatn-l

By sending the above mail, a request is sent to the owners of the list Alpha Mu Chapter. Once your membership has been validated, we will add your name to the list.

You can send the mail yourself, or you can just click here to send the request directly to the AKLatn Technical Group.

After you are subscribed, you can send e-mail to the AKLatn-L address, and that e-mail will be sent automatically to everyone currently on the list. It is of the utmost importance that list users realize that their posts do indeed go to all members on the list (including NHQ), so extremely sensitive material probably should be sent between private addresses.

Occasionally, for whatever reasons (sunspots, moon phases, etc), some people have difficulty with the operation of the list. In that case, if a request is made to one of the list owners, the problem can probably be taken care of. You can send e-mail to:

akl@cavern.uark.edu

Well, Believe it or not, that is all there is to subscribing and using the listserver. It is really very easy and extremely useful. More detailed infomation can be found by e-mailing one of the above addresses.
