We drive out
into the desert to Joshua Tree to see my Aunt Marilyn and my cousins, Linda
and Joe. Linda is involved in the
Guide Dogs of the Desert
organization. On the way, we pass through what I call The Windiest
Place on the Face of the Earth. There are a lot of windmills
there... We arrived in Joshua Tree after dark, called my aunt and
bought a map. After getting lost for awhile, we finally found her
house. It was very strange for me to see the lawns at people's homes
made of sand with no grass anywhere. My aunt's lawn is beautifully
landscaped with Joshua trees, cacti, and many antiques. The next
morning, we (Terry, Aunt Marilyn, and I) drove to the Joshua Tree
National Monument. We drove through admiring the desert and the unusual
plants that Terry and I (from Arkansas) had never seen before. There are
incredible piles of rocks out there that look as though God stacked them
from the sky. They are stacked so precariously that it seems impossible
for them to stay balanced. As we drove through Joshua Tree National
Monument, I kept
looking for a monument and finally realized that the park itself is
the
monument. Below are some photos from Joshua Tree National Monument.
